시험

 cram 시험을 위해 주입식 공부를 하다. 그래서, 이걸 우리가 흔히 사용하는 단어로 옮기면 '벼락치기'가 됩니다. 조금 풀어서 쓰면 아래와 같습니다.

 I have to study hard [quickly] for the final [mid-term] exams.

 기말[중간] 고사 때문에 벼락치기를 해야 돼.

 Did you study a lot for the exam?

 Are you ready for the exam?

 시험 공부 많이 했니?

 Do well on the test. 시험 잘 봐라.

 How did you do on your exam? 시험은 잘 치렸니?

 I absolutely did not cheat (on the test). 부정 행위는 절대로 안 했어요.

 I feel like I'm being swamped by tests. 시험에 파묻혀 사는 것 같아.

swamp는 늪입니다. 이걸 동사로 사용해서 be swamped by 라고 하면 ~에 파묻히다, 압도당하다 라는 뜻이 됩니다. 시험의 늪에 빠졌다 라고 번역해도 좋습니다.

 I got so nervous before the exam. 시험 전에 무척 긴장했어.

 I feel so relieved that the tests are over. 시험이 끝나 마음이 홀가분해.

 

 We stayed up all night cramming. 우리는 밤새워 벼락치기를 했어.

 I stayed up all night. 난 밤샘[날 새기] 했어.

 We stayed up very late.

stay up 자지 않고 있다 라는 뜻입니다. 비슷한 표현으로 아래와 같이 말할 수도 있습니다.   

 We burned the midnight oil studying [working]. 우리는 밤 늦게까지 공부했어.

밤 늦게까지 일하다 라고 할 때도 사용할 수 있죠~

 I messed up the exam.

 I made a mess of the exam.

 I blew the exam. 시험을 망쳤어.
